Qualcomm will launch a new PC chip in 2023

Qualcomm recently announced plans for the next generation of Arm processors, designed to set a performance benchmark for Windows PCs that will go directly to the M-Series processors that will be targeted at Apple. Qualcomm will launch a new PC chip in 2023

Qualcomm Chief Technology Officer Dr. James Thompson announced plans for a new processor at the company’s 2021 investor conference, with the goal of introducing samples to hardware customers around 2023 and providing samples to hardware customers nine months before launch. The new processor will be designed by the Nuvia team, which Qualcomm bought for $1.4 billion earlier this year, foreign media outlet The Verge reported.

Notably, Nuvia was founded in 2019 by three former Apple employees who previously worked together on Apple’s A-Series processors.

In addition, Qualcomm said it is committed to building industry leadership in “continuous performance and battery life” in addition to competing with Apple’s M-Series processors.

In addition, Qualcomm will expand its Adreno GPU with the goal of providing desktop gaming capabilities for its future PC products.

Qualcomm has previously tried to break into PC processors, including the Dragon 8cx family of processors and its collaboration with Microsoft on surface X’s SQ1 and SQ2. But when Apple launched the M1 series last year, Arm-based processors offered a revolutionary energy ratio, and Qualcomm’s efforts on PCs have so far been little of a bright spot.

In just one year since Apple released the M1 last year, as well as the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro (13 inches) with M1 chips, apples have covered the M1 family of processors in products that range in price and positioning, including laptops, desktop flagships, and entry-level models.

Apple will bring M1 Pro, M1 Max chips to more professional devices such as iMac Pro and Mac Pro in the first half of 2022 and the M2 on the new MacBook Air in the second half of the year.

That said, by 2023, Qualcomm is likely to target Apple’s M3 chip portfolio, which is a very difficult challenge as far as progress is made.
